Once upon a time, there was a group of photographers who thought that there was nothing more powerful than a well-crafted
image that communicated something to its viewer. Nothing was more fun than standing above a tray of developer, watching an
image come to life…
Several years later this same group found themselves part of a company now called MerlinOne
(www.merlinone.com)
building Merlin, the industry's best picture desk and image archiving system. Over the years, organizations like the
New York Times, The Boston Globe, The Washington Post, MSNBC, and many, many others came to rely on Merlin to manage
millions of photos, graphics, PDFs, and other visual assets. Some time ago, we realized that our network of Merlin
systems held millions and millions of objects, and a thought occurred to us:
- Wouldn't it be great to make all those images available to everyone?
So we got the idea of building a network. We worked to get a group of news organizations to join, and to upload all their
best images to a central site called Merlin-Net (get it?). No one had ever built a network like this before.
So here we are, with images from our newspaper partners displayed and available to web customers. It almost seems we have
come full circle, from images to technology and back to images again. Through Merlin-Net, great photos get a new life,
bringing enjoyment and pleasure to people over the Internet. We hope you think Merlin-Net is a great idea too, and that
it brings you hours of fun. And we hope you find that perfect photo to buy and frame as a holiday gift or birthday present,
or to fill that vacant spot on your living room or office wall.
We thank you in advance for your advice, ideas, and support. Please let us know what you think about our site, our photos,
and our service by emailing us at feedback@merlin-net.com!
